6 Signs of Cooling System Failure

The cooling system in your car is designed to prevent the engine from operating at temperatures higher than it can handle. If the cooling system were to fail it could result in the motor more or less melting itself from the inside out. This type of damage will generally result in a need for a complete engine rebuild or even the possibility of an engine replacement. If you ever experience any of these cooling system issues don't hesitate to reach out to a qualified auto repair shop for service.

Smoking Hood

Often times the first thing that will happen if your car need cooling system service is it will begin to produce a white smoke that comes out from under the hood. If this happens to you pull over immediately to prevent additional overheating issues and call your mechanic right away.

Rising Temperature Gauge

It is important to monitor your dashboard as it provides you with a lot of information about how your car is operating. If you ever see the engine temperature gauge rising into the hot zone you will want to pull over to give your car a rest.

Splatter Spots

If you pop the hood and find small spots of discoloration all over the engine there is a good chance that it is being caused by a coolant leak. If the coolant sprays out of a hole in the hose it will land on hot engine parts and quickly boil off, burning any paint away.

Low Fluid Levels

You should routinely check the fluid levels of your car to ensure that they are at proper levels. If the coolant is found to be low it generally indicates a leak. If there is a leak one of the following to problems will likely be apparent.

White Exhaust Smoke

If coolant is burnt up in the combustion chamber inside the motor it will produce white exhaust smoke. This may mean your car needs extensive repairs inside the engine.

Visible Coolant Leaks

If you ever spot a bright green, sweet smelling fluid leaking from your car you have just discovered a coolant leak. A lack of coolant will definitely lead to overheating trouble so don't wait to make an appointment to have it repaired.
