Simple Auto Maintenance that Resolves Poor Engine Performance

Simple Auto Maintenance that Resolves Poor Engine PerformanceHave you noticed your vehicle getting worse fuel economy? Is your car or truck suffering from a rough engine idle or stalling? These and other signs of engine trouble may are quite serious, but in reality they can often be fixed with routine maintenance. By keeping up with factory services you can prevent the need for more expensive auto repair, so don't skip scheduled maintenance! However, should you notice any sort of engine trouble it is best to get to the auto repair shop as soon as possible. In all likelihood you won't be facing any sort of major repair, such as an engine rebuild, but instead some minor maintenance required due to the following issues.

Dirty fuel injectors

A rough idle can be caused by several things, one of the more common being dirty fuel injectors. If gasoline can flow without ease from the tank through the injectors the engine will starve for gas, thus generating a poorly running car.

Clogged fuel pump

Similar to dirty injectors, a clogged fuel filter will prevent gasoline, or the proper amounts of gasoline, from getting into the combustion chamber. This again will cause your vehicle to run poorly, so be sure to keep up with simple maintenance to prevent the possibility of stalling or a rough idle.

Worn spark plugs

The spark plugs are what ignite the air and fuel mixture inside the combustion chamber to push the pistons up and down. If the plugs become worn, corroded or otherwise unsatisfactory, they can misfire, or not fire at all, resulting in a poorly running engine that will use excessive amounts of fuel.

Dirty air filter

If the air filter becomes too dirty to let the proper amount of air into the combustion chamber to mix with the gasoline your car could begin to run rich. This means it will use too much gasoline, which aside from decreasing your fuel efficiency can actually cause a number of other problems inside the engine.
