Oil Change in Houston, TX
Oil changes are about as basic as car maintenance gets, but that doesn't mean they don't matter. Fresh oil keeps your engine running clean, cool, and protected—especially important in Houston where summer heat can push temperatures under your hood well past 200 degrees.
At A1 American, we've been changing oil since 1975. It's not the most exciting work we do, but it's one of the most important. Skip your oil changes and you're asking for engine problems. Stay on top of them and your car will run better and last longer.
What's Included
Fresh oil and a new filter using quality conventional, synthetic blend, or full synthetic oil depending on what your car needs.
Fluid check and top-off — we'll check your other fluids and let you know if anything looks low or bad.
Visual inspection — while your car's up on the lift, we're looking at belts, hoses, leaks, tire condition. If we see something that needs attention, we'll mention it.
Tire pressure check — proper inflation affects your gas mileage and how your tires wear.
Takes about 30-45 minutes. You can wait or drop it off and pick it up later.
How Often Should You Change Your Oil?
Check your owner's manual. Most newer cars can go 5,000 to 7,500 miles on conventional oil, some with full synthetic can stretch to 10,000 miles. But Houston's stop-and-go traffic and brutal heat count as "severe driving conditions," which means shorter intervals.
Every 5,000 miles is a safe bet for most folks. If you can't remember the last time you changed it, just get it done. Fresh oil is cheap insurance.
Conventional vs. Synthetic
Conventional oil works fine for most cars and costs less. Synthetic oil costs more but lasts longer, handles heat better, and keeps your engine cleaner. Synthetic blend splits the difference.
We'll use whatever your car's manual recommends, or we can talk through the options.
Why Oil Changes Matter in Houston
Your engine oil doesn't just lubricate—it also cools. When it gets old and breaks down, it stops doing that job well. In Houston's heat, that matters.
Old oil turns to sludge. Sludge clogs up your engine and wears out parts faster. We've seen engines with 200,000 miles that look great inside because the owner stayed on top of oil changes, and engines with 80,000 miles that are trashed because they didn't.
It's the cheapest, easiest thing you can do to keep your car running. Don't skip it.
