What We Check During Your Inspection

Texas requires us to inspect a specific list of safety items to make sure your car's roadworthy. Here's what we're looking at:

Brakes — do they actually stop your car like they're supposed to? We check pads, rotors, lines, and how the system responds.

Lights and signals — headlights, taillights, brake lights, turn signals, hazards. If a bulb's out, we'll catch it.

Steering and suspension — making sure nothing's loose or worn to the point where it's dangerous.

Tires — tread depth and overall condition. Bald tires won't pass.

Horn — yeah, it needs to work.

Windshield wipers — torn or worn-out blades need replacing.

Mirrors — you need at least two working mirrors.

Seat belts — they have to latch properly and not be frayed or damaged.

Exhaust and emissions — for most vehicles in Harris County, we also test emissions to make sure you're not polluting more than you should.

It's not a full mechanical inspection of every system in your car—it's focused on safety and emissions. But if we notice something else that looks like it might be a problem soon, we'll let you know.

What Happens If Your Car Doesn't Pass?

If something doesn't meet state standards, we'll fail that item and give you a detailed report of what needs fixing. You've got a grace period to get the repairs done and bring it back for a re-inspection.

How Long Does It Take?

Plan on 30-45 minutes for a standard inspection if we're not busy. If there's a line (end of the month gets hectic), it might take a little longer. You can wait in our lobby, or if you've got errands to run, drop it off and we'll give you a call when it's done.
